Frequently Asked Questions

What is an XPS file?

XPS (XML Paper Specification) and its successor OpenXPS are Microsoft’s document formats for fixed-layout printing, originally promoted as a Windows-native alternative to PDF. They never gained wide adoption outside Windows, so XPS files often arrive in mailboxes of macOS/Linux/mobile users who cannot open them.

Will the layout be preserved?

Yes. XPS is a fixed-layout format like PDF (each page is exactly positioned), so the conversion is essentially a faithful re-encoding: text, vector shapes and images keep their exact positions and the result is virtually pixel-identical to the original viewed in a Windows XPS viewer.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The whole conversion happens locally in your browser using a WebAssembly XPS parser and pdf-lib. Your documents and the resulting PDF never leave your device.

Does it support OpenXPS (.oxps) too?

Yes. Both legacy .xps and modern .oxps (the ECMA-388 standardised version) are supported by the same parser, so any XPS-family file you receive can be converted to PDF in one step.

Is the converter free?

Yes — 100% free, no signup, no watermark, no daily quota.
