Frequently Asked Questions

What metadata is shown?

Every standard /Info field (Author, Title, Subject, Keywords, Producer, Creator, CreationDate, ModDate, Trapped), document properties (PDF version, Language, Encryption, Linearization/Fast Web View, AcroForm/XFA form presence, PDF Portfolios), plus the full XMP metadata stream with custom namespaces (e.g. PDF/A, Adobe XMP-MM, custom corporate schemas) and document permissions.

Why is PDF metadata interesting?

Metadata often reveals more than expected: the real name of the author, the corporate computer username, the exact creation timestamp, the software (and its version) used to create the file. It is a goldmine for journalism, legal forensics and due diligence — and a leak vector you want to plug before publishing documents.

Are my files uploaded?

No. All inspection happens locally in your browser using PDF.js and our XMP parser. Your PDF and the displayed metadata never leave your device, which makes the tool safe for evidence and confidential documents.

How do I remove the metadata afterwards?

Click the "Sanitize / Remove Metadata" link on the report page — it opens our Remove Metadata tool with the same file loaded so you can produce a clean copy in one extra click.

Is the tool free?

Yes — 100% free, no signup, no daily quota. Inspect as many PDFs as you need, for forensic, privacy or curiosity reasons.
