Markdown is the de-facto format for technical documentation, README files, knowledge bases (Obsidian, Notion), static-site generators (Hugo, Jekyll, Docusaurus) and LLM training data. Converting a PDF to .md gives you editable, version-controllable, future-proof content instead of a binary blob.
ZentoPDF compares the font size of each line against the document’s base font size. Lines that are noticeably larger or bolder are promoted to # (H1), ## (H2) or ### (H3) headings, mirroring the visual hierarchy of the source PDF.
Tables are exported as standard Markdown pipe tables when their rows align cleanly; otherwise they fall back to a plain-text representation. Inline images are preserved by reference (path placeholders) so you can replace them with the real assets if needed.
Yes. All parsing and Markdown generation happens in your browser with PDF.js. Your original PDF and the resulting .md file never leave your device, which makes the tool safe for internal documentation, contracts and proprietary research.
Scanned PDFs are images without selectable text, so they produce an empty Markdown file. Run them through our OCR PDF tool first — once the text is recognised and embedded, the conversion to Markdown works as expected.
